I been greatly blessed by making monthly visits of our older members. They may not remember what they had for breakfast but they love to tell stories about the way they serve the Lord when they were younger! Many of the visits I made opportunities for me to just listen about youth group of the past, picnics, testimonies, bringing them to Jesus, the list goes on & on. What strikes me is that many of older members are sitting somewhere doing nothing they still read their bible, they still memorize verses & whole bible books {!}, & they pray. Often they hear birth, wedding, mission work, etc., long before I do. They are very much interested, in the decisions about the new building even though they realize they probably will not see it or visit the finial production. You may be surprised about the interest & enthusiasm there is among our invisible members.
While caring for my mother I saw similar trait within her for example. After hearing several hours of listening several hours godly message on the radio or CD. She would state to Persona Care Worker I did not enough yesterday often chuckle & you did enough . In latter year she often would forget what she did five minute ago, however she still was faithful would allow others read to her, listen to sermons & was faithful prayer warrior. It was a privileged to played small role in caring for her & watching her in actions.
Speaking of prayer here are some example: In my late teen I rejected the gospel that she taught me & told her I was not interested in going to church anymore like a caring parent she caution me not take this route, however like fool I rejected her advise. In the attic on 47 Glenfern Ave she pray for me at the time mean nothing to me, nonetheless, God give me no rest nor peace in that time span until, August 8th 1976 when I asked Jesus to forgive me for my sins & He did & God answered her prayer on that day.
Another time, when she ready to departure into glory to meet her savior God heard anotherprayer that day. Perhaps her words & thoughts fits together the best “ Hi Paul, at the time of your mom’s passing I was praying with her. During my prayer, I told Jesus that Martha’s desire was to be home with Him. I prayed that if Jesus felt the same way that He should take her home now. I was telling Martha how wonderful it will be to see Jesus face to face. I continued on in praise and thanksgiving before I said Amen. Although I believe the Lord hears our prayers, I usually don’t get an answer so quickly, therefore I was really was surprised that He took her at that moment. I believe they both thought that was a great idea! I believe your mom eagerly wanted to be healthy and whole again and celebrating being in God’s presence as well as seeing family members she hasn’t seen in a long while.’
“When your family told me how privileged I was to pray Martha into heaven, it was a great comfort to me as I didn’t know how anyone would react. I was incredibly touched to see your family’s amazing response around Martha’s bedside. I saw how a godly family reacts to a great loss. I was deeply moved and honoured to be there.” The last words she heard was a prayer warrior praying for her. God answered her prayer& mother as well.
Romans 8;26 – 27 26 In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
