1 Corinthians 3; 16- 17; 16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.
False Teachers
A third class of work in the local church is that which may be spoken of as destructive. Apparently there were false teachers who had come into the church at Corinth and whose instruction tended more to sin than to holiness. They did not think it a serious matter to thus cause havoc in a temple of God, so Paul thunders out this solemn declaration: “If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him.” Viewed in its local setting, this means that if any man enters a local church and wrecks its testimony, God will destroy him. The passage is speaking of false teachers who are not true believers in the Lord Jesus. The seriousness of such an offense is indicated by the closing words of verse 17: “For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.” Believer Bible Commentary
If we are the temples of God, we must do nothing that shall alienate ourselves from him, or corrupt and pollute ourselves, and thereby unfit ourselves for his use; and we must hearken to no doctrine nor doctor that would seduce us to any such practices. If we are the temples of God, we must do nothing that shall alienate ourselves from him, or corrupt and pollute ourselves, and thereby unfit ourselves for his use; and we must hearken to no doctrine nor doctor that would seduce us to any such practices. Matthew Henry Commentary
To be able understand , the scriptures so would can expose the false teachers. You to need fully arm yourself with God’s Word to ward them off. This is a stern warning from God to the false teachers who incorporate a different gospel to the flock to scatter them for example the Pharisee. Jesus gives a similarly warning. Found in Matthew 18: 6, “ But whoever causes the downfall of one of these little ones who believe in Me it would be better for him if a heavy millstone were hung around his neck and he were drowned in the depths of the sea!
A leader or a teacher of God’s Word they need to equip the saints so they’re capable of exposing the false teachers. The apostle was Paul was a good example of being able leader equipping future leader to equip the saints. Found in Acts 20; 27- 28, “27 For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God. 28 Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.”
