Are We Responsible For Fore Father Sin
19 You ask: “Why is not the son charged with the guilt of his father?” Because the son has done what is right and just, and has been careful to observe all my statutes, he shall surely live.
20 Only the one who sins shall die. The son shall not be charged with the guilt of his father, nor shall the father be charged with the guilt of his son. The virtuous man’s virtue shall be his own, as the wicked man’s wickedness shall be his own.
Ezekiel 18:19–20
29 And yet the house of Israel says, “The LORD’S way is not fair!” Is it my way that is not fair, house of Israel, or rather, is it not that your ways are not fair?
30 Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, each one according to his ways, says the Lord GOD. Turn and be converted from all your crimes, that they may be no cause of guilt for you. Ezekiel 18: 29 -30.
There’s an adage the Jewish people would say,“ Fathers have eaten green grapes; thus, their children’s teeth are on edge”? My father committed the sin, and I am being punished for it. As scriptures states,” Our fathers who sinned, are no more; but we bear their guilt. Our fathers who sinned, are no more; but we bear their guilt.
God refutes this argument by stating,” As I live, says the Lord GOD: I swear that there shall no longer be anyone among you who will repeat this proverb in Israel. For all lives are mine; the life of the father is like the life of the son, both are mine; only the one who sins shall die. As scripture states,“ Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children for their fathers; only for his own guilt shall a man be put to death. For instance, “As it was in the royal line of the kings of Judah, so it often happens in private families, that godly parents have wicked children and wicked parents have godly children.”
The fathers or mothers are responsible for theirs sinful actions, and sons, and daughters are accountable for theirs own sinful actions. Scriptures states,” But he would be concerned, and he would’ve such a kindness for all souls that none would die, meaning it shall be excluded from the favour of God, which is the life and bliss of the soul, and shall lie forever under his wrath, which is its death and misery. Matthew Henry wrote,” The soul that sins shall die, and not another for it.” In Matthew Henry Commentary he wrote; “God does not punish the children for the fathers’sins unless they tread in their fathers steps and fill up the measure of their iniquity (Mt. 23:32), and then they have no reason to complain, for, whatever they suffer, it is less than their own sin has deserved.” Further more he wrote, “The son shall not die, not die eternally, for the iniquity of the father, if he does not tread in the steps of it, nor the father for the iniquity of the son.
Furthermore he states,” Matthew Henry Commentary; God does not punish the children for the fathers’ sins unless they tread in their fathers’ steps and fill up the measure of their iniquity (Mt. 23:32), and then they have no reason to complain, for, whatever they suffer, it is less than their own sin has deserved.” Further more he wrote,”if he do not tread in the steps of it, nor the father for the iniquity of the son, if he endeavour to do his duty for the preventing of it. If he endeavour to do his duty for the preventing of it.”
It is true that there is a curse entailed upon wicked families, but it is as true that the entail may be cut off by repentance and reformation. That being said the curse started with Adam and Eve. However, the Father sent His Son Jesus to redeemed us from the curse. Hymn writer wrote,” Far as the curse is found, Far as the curse is found, Far as, far as, the curse is found. Or scripture states,”For as high (as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west. So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
Scripture states’ “Cast away from you all the crimes you have committed, and make for yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. Why should you die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of anThey one who dies, says the Lord GOD. Return and live!
Mathew Henry wrote, “ God, by the prophet, having laid down the general rule of judgment, that he will render eternal life to those that patiently continue in well-doing, but indignation and wrath to those that do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness.”
We have here another rule of judgment which God will go by in dealing with us, by which is further demonstrated the equity of his government. The former showed that God will reward or punish according to the change made in the family or succession, for the better or for the worse; here he shows that he will reward or punish according to the change made in the person himself, whether for the better or the worse. Or king David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.” Than Nathan answered David: “The LORD on his part has forgiven your sin: you shall not die.
The parable of the prodigal Son is another good example, “ Coming to his senses he thought, “How many of my father’s hired workers have more than enough food to eat, but here am I, dying from hunger. I shall get up and go to my father and I shall say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I no longer deserve to be called your son; treat me as you would treat one of your hired workers.” So he got up and went back to his father. Matthew Henry wrote,” We do not rightly turn from sin unless we truly hate it, and we do not truly hate sin, as sin, if we do not hate all sin.”
The Father prodigal Son had compassion on his son as scriptures states, “ While he was still a long way off, his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him. His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you; I no longer deserve to be called your son.’ But his father ordered his servants, ‘Quickly bring the finest robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Take the fattened calf and slaughter it. Then let us celebrate with a feast. Mathew Henry wrote , “What encouragement a repenting returning sinner has to hope for pardon and life according to this promise. He is conscious to himself that his obedience for the future can never be a valuable compensation for his former disobedience; but he has this to support himself with, that God’s nature, property, and delight, is to have mercy and to forgive. “ As scripture states,” Do I indeed derive any pleasure from the death of the wicked? says the Lord GOD. Do I not rather rejoice when he turns from his evil way that he may live?”
Scripture states,” If I say to the wicked man, You shall surely die; and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his wicked conduct so that he may live: that wicked man shall die for his sin, but I will hold you responsible for his death.

In the day of the revelation of the righteous judgment of God, which is now clouded and eclipsed, the righteousness of the righteous shall appear before all the world to be upon him, to his everlasting comfort and honour, upon him as a robe, upon his as a crown; and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him, to his everlasting confusion, upon him as a chain, upon him as a load, as a mountain of lead to sink him to the bottomless pit.

To me the gospel or the atoning work of Christ is simple to understand, yet it still like a jigsaw puzzle with a lot mystery and challenges within it. When we enter heaven gate than we understand the depth of gospel and it beauty and preeminence. RC Sproul wrote,” For over fifty years I have studied and read a host of tomes written about the meaning of the cross of Christ, and yet I still believe that I have not been able to do anything more than touch the surface of the depths and the riches that are contained in that moment of redemptive history. I suspect that when my eyes open in heaven for the first time, I will be absolutely staggered by the sudden increase of understanding that will come to me when I behold the Lamb who was slain and hear angels and archangels singing in my ears, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing ” (Rev. 5:12), and when I see the apostle Paul and say, “Thank you for knowing nothing but Christ and him crucified.”

The only way you can enter heaven gate is through the cross where Jesus willing sacrifice himself, and redeemed mankind from our sins. Took our sins and His Father wrath. Mankind responsibility is to repent, confess, and believe in Christ. Than Christ will take our sins and we will inherit His Righteousness.
Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep.”
