And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, Genesis 3;15
14 He erased the certificate of debt, with its obligations, that was against us and opposed to us, and has taken it out of the way by nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and disgraced them publicly; He triumphed over them by Him.
Colossians 2; 14 – 15
John Stott wrote about Satan works being demolished at the cross” What The New Testament affirms in its own uninhabited way is that the cross Jesus disarmed and triumphed over the devil, and all the principalities and powers at his command. First, century hearers of the gospel will have had no difficulty in accepting this, for it is perhaps hard of modern man to realize how hag- ridden was the world into which Christ came.”
Where many countries live fear of these dreaded demons. Where country like Canada and USA the occult is joke Bob Dylan wrote life is but joke”. Not being aware of the danger path they’re walking into falling into. John Stott wrote,” Still today in many countries people live in dread of malevolent spirits. And in the supposedly sophisticated West a new and alarming fascination which the occult has developed.”
Failing to realize Satan was defeated at the cross. Many Christians are unaware they have victory over demons, and principalities, and its powers. I am not suggesting that we start seeking satan under every rock or casting out demon lusts, envy, sickness, alcohol, or whatever, or binding Satan up. I often wonder how do you bind him up, and why not keep him bound up? Perpetually think thinking about him. As Michael Green, “ is that of excessive preoccupation with the Prince of evil.”
That being said Demons out there and part of the fallen world, and part of mankind we bear the scars of sin. They know are weakness and vulnerabilities know when to attack and know when not to attack, and they’re subtle, and bait is impalpable, and they’re armed themselves with cruel hate as Martin Luther wrote in a hymn A Mighty Fortress Is Our God. As scripture states,” And no wonder! For Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” Randy Acorn wrote ” You must not let him see Charis as a place of learning, exploration, duties, travel, companionship, banquets, celebrations, and productive work. A low view of heaven is our ace in the hole.” CS Lewis wrote”“Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one–the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts.”
That what Jesus defeated Satan on the cross and his works are defeated. As scripture states Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, Jesus also shared in these, so that through His death He might destroy the one holding the power of death—that is, the Devil— and free those who were held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death. For it is clear that He does not reach out to help angels, but to help Abraham’s offspring. Yet another passage wrote,” He erased the certificate of debt, with its obligations that was against us and opposed to us, and has taken it out of the way by nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and disgraced them publicly; He triumphed over them by Him.” Matthew Henry wrote; He has obtained a glorious victory for us over the powers of darkness: And, having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. As the curse of the law was against us, so the power of Satan was against us.” Furthermore he wrote,“ He treated with God as the Judge, and redeemed us out of the hands of his justice by a price; but out of the hands of Satan the executioner he redeemed us by power and with a high hand. He led captivity captive. The devil and all the powers of hell were conquered and disarmed by the dying Redeemer. “
When Eve and Adam fell into sin in the Garden Of Eden. God put a curse on them, and the first individual He address was Satan that disguised himself a snake. He spoke these words, to Satan.”“ Because you have done this, “Cursed are you more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you will go, And dust you will eat All the days of your life; And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed, and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.” That was Jesus Christ, and the woman was the Virgin Mary. He accomplished by sacrificing Himself on the cross.
Jesus changed our sinful clothes into his clothes. John Stott wrote,” That God in Christ stripped them from himself like foul clothing they had closed in upon him and were clinging to him and so they started them.” As scriptures,” Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments and standing before the angel. He spoke and said to those who were standing before him, saying, “Remove the filthy garments from him.” Again, he said to him, “See, I have taken your iniquity away from you and will clothe you with festal robes.” As John Stott wrote,” He publicly died display to Satan now is disarmed and now his work now defeated. Matthew Henry wrote,” See his crown of thorns turned into a crown of laurels. He spoiled them, broke the devil’s power, and conquered and disabled him, and made a show of them openly—exposed them to public shame, and made a show of them to angels and men. As written in the scriptures,” So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men.”
John Stott wrote, “But Jesus obeyed, and the devil is now routed. Provoked by the insults and tortures to which he was subjected. Jesus absolutely refused to retaliate. By his self- giving love for others. ” As written in the scripture, “Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good.” Furthermore Stott wrote, “ Decisively won at the cross, the cross was the victory won.”
To summaries Michael Green wrote,” the cross of Jesus is the very core of the gospel.” John Stott wrote,” but we must insist Christ’s work of sin bearing was finished at the cross that the victory over the devil, sin, and death was won one there, and that the resurrection did was vindicate the Jesus whom men had rejected, to declare with power that he is the Son of God and publicly confirm that his sin bearing death had been effective for the forgiveness of sins.” Furthermore he wrote,” yet the gospel emphasizes the cross, since it was there that the victory was accomplished.” As scriptures states, but we preach Christ crucified, For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.”
When Jesus willing sacrifice Himself on the cross He took humankind sins, His Father wrath, and crushed Satan power over the human race. When we confess, repent, and believe in Jesus Christ, He will take our sins, and give His righteousness and declare us righteous before His Father.”
