Nicky Cruise and Israel Narvaez

Both Nicky and Israel were members of the notorious Brooklyn street gang known as the Mau Maus named after a bloodthirsty African tribe. A Puerto Rican gang that operated from at the late 1954 to around 1962. Israel Narvaez was the president , while Nicky was warlord, vice president, and eventually became the president.

Nevertheless, a skinny preacher named David Wilkerson from Philipsburg Pennsylvania. Came from out of nowhere and declare the gospel . He had a vision from God to go slums in New York City. Two weeks later, Wilkerson had an evangelistic meeting in the neighborhood. When Cruz heard about it, he decided to go and teach this preacher a “lesson” and, with some of the gang members of his gang, he headed toward the boxing arena where the rally was held. While at the rally David asked for Nicky take up a collection. Nicky sprang to his feet and led a group of the gang through the crowd insisting on people giving them money. Nicky went to the police station and handed all weapons in. Later on, he forgave his parents, and he asked for them to forgive him.

Every piece will still love you.” His mind and heart was haunted by these words he could not sleep.At the rally he sought Jesus forgiveness and allow him to hug him. The love Nicky got in return radically changed his life. He left the gang and enrolled into Bible College According to Nicky “When I had opened my eyes, I got a new heart. I’d been born again. I’m a child of the Lord.”

Israel Narvaez was equally as ruthless as Nicky Cruise. When David Wilkerson gave an alter call and Israel responded, and said yes to Jesus. Due to a miscommunication Israel became disillusioned with Christianity and joined back up with the Mau Maus in the fall of 1958.
On February 23, 1959 Israel and four fellow Mau Maus shot killed Sand Street Angel and Italian gang that were enemies of the Mau Maus. For dating a Mau Maus sister. The boy name was
Anthony Lavonchino,. On January 12, 1960, Israel and his fellow Mau Maus Carlos Reyes, Melvin Torres and Carl Cintron were convicted of murder and sent to Elmira Prison.
Israel eventually got out of jail after a few years and struggled to get back to a normal life. He married and provided for his family. Years later Israel met with Nicky Cruz, his old running mate from the gang days and rededicated his life to the Lord.
