Limited Atonement
Jesus died as a propitiation for the benefit of mankind without exception.
Limited atonement is most controversial !! It maintains that God’s design and intent in sending Christ to die on the cross were to pay for the sins and secure the redemption of those whom God has predetermined to save, namely, the elect. Or another term is definite redemption, or definite atonement.
Where some believe that Christ died for the church or the elect where other believe He died for the world found in John 3; 16 or 1 John 2; 2. For example, a five point Calvinist believes in God chose the elect and Christ died for the church and wrote these words, concerting limited atonement “ Christ died especially for the elect, and paid a definite price for them that guaranteed their salvation.” Where the arminianism believe that Christ died world and wrote these words, “Christ died equally for all men, and paid a provisional price that made salvation possible for all but guaranteed it for none.” John Owens wrote, God imposed His wrath due unto, and the Son underwent the pains of hell for, either: All the sins of all men. All the sins of some men, or Some sins of all men.” Found in these passages John 6:37 . One passage it states, “Everyone the Father gives Me will come to Me, while the passages states, Christ gave Himself—a ransom for all
Whether it for the elect or all mankind. I am not sure who right or wrong because both sides have scriptures that uses to back up their claims. Whether you believe that He died for the world or the elect. So let leave it with the egghead biblical scholars to work out. Since God is the author of scriptures He would knows what is best
Scripture is also very clear that heaven there will be a multitude that no one can count and there will many mansions in heaven declares these words, “After this I looked, and there was a vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language, which no one could number, standing before the throne, and before the Lamb. They were robed in white with palm branches in their hands.” Jesus uttered these words to His disciples. “Your heart must not be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places. Remember Jesus Christ atoned mankind sins whether for the church or elect to me its not a salvation issue.

To me is limited atonement means, that only Christ redemptive or atoning works on Calgary Cross can save mankind from hell. Where if you believe in Christ atoning works and accept that you are sinner that you’re responsible for miserable state in. And Christ took our sins and replace with His righteousness. Than they will inherit eternal life with Him, and will be adopted into His family. If you attempt uses other means such as good works than you will fail miserably As scripture declares, “ Anyone who doesn’t enter the sheep pen by the door but climbs in some other way, is a thief, and a robber. The one who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. R.C. Sproul wrote, “THE REDEMPTION OF SPECIFIC SINNERS WAS AN ETERNAL PLAN OF GOD…ACCOMPLISHED BY THE ATONING WORK OF CHRIST.” The key is Christ atoning work on the cross. So let us examined limited atonement the life times of Jesus Christ ” So let us consider why Jesus is the savour of the world and is the Son of God !!
For Jesus to be Son Of God, and to atone mankind from theirs sins he needed to fulfill the law and prophets, commit no sins, and found innocent by Government agent and society, and fulfil the ceremonial laws and Ten Commandments found in the Old Testaments.
Jesus declared these words. “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. To be prophet from God you need to be 100% accurate, or you would be declare a false prophet and be put to death. As scriptures state, “ but the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.
For example, Jesus had to be king had to be born in King David found in 2 Sam. 7:12-13. Joseph and Mary were Jesus parents they were born in David line found in Matthew 1:1–17 and Luke 3:23–38 Born of a virgin woman found in Isaiah 7:14. Mary conceives Jesus well still a virgin found in Luke 1; 34 Born in Bethlehem found Micah 5:2. Jesus born in Bethlehem found in Luke 2’ 1-7. Died a cruel death found Psalm 22; 14 Jesus Christ was crucified on a cross found in Mark 15; 22-24 Beaten and mock by the crowd found in Psalm 22; 6-7. Jesus mocked by the crowd, High priest, and two criminals found in Matthew 27; 39 -44 Pierce for our transgression Isaiah 53; 5 Jesus pierced by sword found in John 19; 34 Died among the wick and buried in a rich man grave Isaiah 53:9. Jesus Christ was crucified between two criminals found in Luke 23; 37 and buried by Joseph Arimathea a rich ruler and Nicodemus found in Mathew 27; 57-59 and John 19; 39-41 Jesus had to be perfect sacrifice without blemish in agreement of ceremony law lay out by Moses in Exodus 12; 5, John Baptist declared The Lamb of God take away sins of world In the ninth hour 3pm Jesus gave up spirit and died. Exactly when the daily sacrifices were offered up to God. No decay found in body found Psalm 16:8-11. Three days later Jesus rose from the grave found in Luke 28; 6-7 .
Jesus Christ had to obey all the Ten Commandments, in thought and deed, Jesus uttered these words In John 8; 46, Jesus never once admitted that He sinned nor did anything wrong. Nor could Jewish leaders, the apostles, Pilate nor Harold, the theft on the cross and Roman centurion could find anything fault in Him. Peter declared these once, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. Jesus declared these words once, “If I said something wrong, testify as to what is wrong.” Pilate Governor of Israeli, King Herod, and the thief on the cross declared Him no guilty. Found Luke 23; 4, 15, 41; 4; I find no basis for a charge against this man.” 15, Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death. The thief found in verse 41; “ But this man has done nothing wrong.” The centurion utters these words, “Surely this was a righteous man.”
In town of Nazareth, where Jesus work as carpenter. He went to the synagogue, and opened the scroll, and uttered these words Jesus utter from the prophet of Isaiah “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed, To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.” And Jesus said, “While you heard these words just now, they were coming true!” Jesus was saying in the clearest possible manner that He was the Messiah of Israel. He came to set the captive free, and He presented Himself as the answer to all the ills that tormented us, whether you think of these ills in a physical sense or in a spiritual sense. Since Jesus proclaims these words either, he was a prophet that came from God Declaring He was Messiah that will redeem the world from theirs sins. The stakes were higher. Even thou the people spoke will of Him. To the people in Nazareth Jesus was one the hometown boys not the Messiah of Israel.
The people living in Nazareth got up, forced Jesus out of town, and took him to the edge of the cliff which the town was built. They planned to throw him off the edge, but Jesus walked through the crowd and continued his way. The cliff is found south of Nazareth, it called Mt Kedumim (397M), 1,302.16 feet overlooking the Yizrael Valley. No small cliff, if the townspeople would being successful they would’ve killed Jesus before his time and He wold have been declared as a false prophet. Jesus had only two choices over the cliff or walking through the people, and they had no intension letting him pass by, They intended to kill him. The question is how did He walk through this outraged mob without getting severally injured or killed?
Jesus had display that He was God, and backup His words that He was the Messiah. Believer Commentary penned these words, “But Jesus miraculously walked through the crowd and left the city. His foes were powerless to stop Him. “ Matthew Henry wrote these words, “ Yet he escaped, because his hour was not yet come: He passed through the midst of them unhurt. Either he blinded their eyes, as God did those of the Sodomites and Syrians, or he bound their hands, or filled them with confusion, so that they could not do what they designed; for his work was not done, it was but just began; his hour was not yet come, when it was come; he freely surrendered himself.
John MacArthur in sermon on Blind for the Glory of God spoke these words concerning Jesus healing powers, “People with deformed and diseased organs were given new organs. People with blind eyes given new eyes. People who couldn’t hear given new ears. Each is a creative work. This consistent, John introduces the gospel by saying, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Nothing that was made was made without him; all things were made by Him. He is the creator, and we see Him create. All of these healing miracles are supernal, “rural acts of creation, taking something corrupted, something deformed, something diseased, something infected, and replacing it with something brand-new.The works of God through Christ. “
Simon mother-in-law healed Luke 4; 38- 39. Healing of Leper Luke 5; 13- 14. Healing of paralytic Luke 5; 25- 26. Healing centurion’s slave Luke 7; 10]. Rising young man from the dead Luke 7; 14-15. Forgiving an Immoral woman of her sins. Luke 7; 40- 50 Casting out demons Luke 8; 32. “ In John gospel he wrote these words, “And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which, if they were written one by one, I suppose not even the world itself could contain the books that would be written.”
On night, the Jesus was arrested and put on trial there was no formal charges. Alfred Edersheim in his Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah (book 3, chapter 2 states: “The Sanhedrin did not, and could not, originate charges. It only investigated those brought before it.” The condemnation charge was false. The High Priest’s charge of blasphemy (cursing God or assuming to oneself the rights and qualities of God), which was used to justify sentencing Jesus to death, was INCORRECT because he WAS telling the truth. He was the Son of God. Mark 14:60-63
Since the chief priests and the Pharisees could not execute because they were rule by Roman law and only they had authority to execute criminals; however, they could not use blasphemy. So they brought Jesus to Pilate who was the Government of Judah at time. Pilate said, “What charges are you bringing against this man?” They responded, “If he were not a criminal, we would not have handed him over to you.” So Pilate told them, “Take Him yourselves and judge Him accor ding to your law.”“ But, priests and the Pharisees we have no right to execute anyone.” They later change the charge to that Jesus claims to be Messiah, a king.”, is punishment by crucifixion by Roman Law.
After Pilate examined Jesus uttered these words,” I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges, and send Him to against him Herod and neither could find fault with Him, and He sent back to Pilate. Remember Pilate heard reports, and written report on Jesus, and had Jesus investigated, and saw that it was quite clear that He wasn’t leading a threat or military leader. There was simply no evidence support the Jewish leaders charges. The Chief Priests and Pharisees, eventually admitted the real reason why they wanted Jesus dead, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God.”
Now, it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus Barabbas was A Jewish insurrectionist and found guilty treason schedule to be executed. The crowd chose to release Barabbas and crucify Jesus uttering these words, “Crucify him!” Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But, they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!” When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting; he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!” All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children! Then, he released Barabbas and sent Jesus to be crucify Even thou Pilate found Him not guilty three times He still sent to the cross and died cruel death.
Since Jesus was the Son of God why would His Father allow Him die such cruel manner? In Corinthians 5; 21 the apostle Paul penned these words, “He {God the Father} Emphasis Added made the One {Jesus} Emphasis Added who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
The first person who came to faith, and confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savour was the thief on the cross found in Luke 23; 40- 43 think of comparison 2 Corinthians 5;21
•2 Corinthians 5;21 To be sin for us The {thief} Emphasis Added But this man has done nothing wrong.” The thief declaring Jesus not guilty
•2 Corinthians 5; 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us Jesus took our sin Then he {the thief) Emphasis Added said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom Jesus answered him. The thief confessing, repenting, believing.Jesus;“
•Truly I tellyou, today you will be with me in paradise. {Declaring the thief righteous through Christ }
•2 Corinthians 5; 21; So that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Wearing Christ clothes instead of his sinful clothes.
The bottom line the Chief Priests, the crowd, Pilate, and mankind sins sent an Innocent man to die. We’re responsible for sentencing an innocent man to be executed. All humankind was responsible for crucifying Christ. While human eyes it seemed unfair that innocent man should die for the guilty.Because God is holy and hates sins he needed to send Himself to take the place of man place to us set free from the bondage of sin.
However, God another plan, where Christ willingly went to the cross and sacrifice Himself, and took mankind sins, and His Father wrath. To bridge the gap between His Father and mankind. To those who confess, repent, and believe in His atoning work now have access to His kingdom will have eternal life Him. As scripture declares,” For through Him {Jesus} Emphasis Added we {to those believe} Emphasis Added both have access by one Spirit to the Father. To me limited atonement means its only Jesus atoning work on cross means we now inherit and being adopted into God’s family.
