When Was Jesus Born

Someone I knew did the math came up with date when Jesus was born. It was in middle of September or October known as the month of Tishri. According to Jewish calendar this was time where Yom Kippur known as the day of atonement where thee high priest enter the Holy Of Holy, and offer a yearly sacrifice for sins of the people. It was most important holiday in the Jewish year. Found in Leviticus 16:6-10 in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and you shall not do any work …For on that day he shall provide atonement for you to cleanse you from all your sins before the LORD.According to scriptures, a high priest in Aaron line will present the bull for his sin offering and make atonement for himself and his household.

Than two goats were bought to the high priest. One was sacrifice as atonement for people sins. While the other goat was released in the desert bearing the sin of the people. According to scripture, The priest would lay his hands on the goat.  Next he will take the two goats and place them before the Lord at the entrance to the tent of meeting.  After Aaron casts lots for the two goats, one lot for the Lord and the other for Azazel, he is to present the goat chosen by lot for the Lord and sacrifice it as a sin offering. But, the goat chosen by lot for Azazel is to be presented alive before the Lord to make purification with it by sending it into the wilderness for Azazel or knew as the scapegoat.

While there other person thinks, Jesus was born in Nissan {March or April.}. Where Passover was celebrates. When the Israelite people were liberated from bondage of slavery from the Egyptian. On the first Passover God commanded Moses that the Israelite was to sprinkle blood on their houses where they were staying will be a distinguishing mark for you; when the LORD sees the blood, HE will pass over them. No plague will be among you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. This day is to be a memorial for you, and you must celebrate it as a festival to the Lord. You shall celebrate it throughout your generations as a permanent statute. They both think they’re right, and believe they can support their claim through scriptures. While both festivals play a huge role in the incense offering salvation plan. Scripture does not reveal Jesus birthday

So lets us examine the scriptures. The only account that   was given was found in Luke 1; 8-10.  Now, it happened that while Zachariah was performing his priestly service before God in the appointed order of his division, according to the custom of the priestly office, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense. And the whole multitudes of the people were in prayer outside at the hour of the incense offering.

Note that He does not say that He enters the Holy of Holy only the temple of the Lord, to burn incense, and incense offering. Only priests in line Aaron performed this task in the morning and evening every day . Gil Exposition Of Whole Bible wrote, “In the court of the Israelites, whilst Zachariah was in the holy place; though not in the holy of holies, where only the high priest entered.”

To understand the important of burning incense you need to read Exodus 30; 7-8  to understand the duty of priest; The High Priest in Aaron line shall burn fragrant incense on it; he shall burn it every morning when he trims the lamps. When Aaron trims the lamps at twilight, he shall burn incense. There shall be perpetual incense before the Lord throughout your generations. It would be very difficult to pin point John Baptist conception and his birth in this passage

The another account is when the angel Gabriel appeared before Mary a descendant of David. Proclaiming these words, “Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”

Note in Dr. Luke account he did not record the date when the angel Gabriel appear before Mary when he declared Jesus birth. Nor did it Dr. Luke put down, the day Jesus was born. Only where He was born.

Although the Jewish people kept precise record and had Jesus birth record on hand, and Dr. Luke had access to them could easily recorded the date of Jesus birth. Another factor that Mary would have remembered the day Jesus was born and likely told Dr. Luke this while conducting an investigating into Jesus life. Since he was known to do a thorough investigation. Dr. Luke declared said, “just as the original eyewitnesses and servants of the word handed them down to us. 3 It also seemed good to me, since I have carefully investigated everything from the very first, to write to you in an orderly sequence.” Why did he leave out this from his account? I’ve no idea !!

A better question would be why did Jesus come in the first place? What is more important the reason He came or His birthday?  Maybe the words that Mary proclaims, “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord and my spirit has rejoicedin God my Savior, Or Zachariah prophesying, “Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, because He has visited andprovided redemption for His people. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant David.” In short, Jesus came to liberate mankind from their sin, and set them free the curse of sin.

Note the connection Zachariah was high priest born in the line of Aaron, and Mary was born in line of King David. Zachariah’s wife Elizabeth was related to Mary found in Luke 1; 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age. John and Jesus were related

Matthew Henry Commentary wrote; Now the father of John Baptist was a priest, a son of Aaron; his name Zachariah. No families in the world were ever so honored of God as those of Aaron and David with one made the covenant of priesthood, with the other that of royalty.

My Mother once told me. The reason Moses or Jesus burial site were not shown in the scripture because we would’ve built a shrine around these sites, and mankind would’ve been more occupied on these sites instead the task in hand, preaching and proclaiming the gospel. Maybe the reason the four gospels did not show the date of Jesus birth is perhaps they were more focus on why He came, and exactness of whether he was the real Messiah or not. As Scripture states, “ The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law.”

To me, celebrating Jesus on twenty-fifth of December is a good thing even thou it is a pagan holiday. Why not celebrate Jesus birthday on this day the greatest gift God gave to mankind sending His one and only Son Jesus Christ who redeemed mankind from theirs sins.

RC Sproul wrote these words; That question comes up every the year at Christmas time. In the first place, there’s no direct biblical commandment to celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25. There’s nothing in the Bible that would even indicate that Jesus was born on December 25. In fact, there’s much in The New Testament narratives that would indicate that it didn’t happen during that time of year.

It just so happens that on the twenty-fifth of December in the Roman Empire there was a pagan holiday that was linked to mystery religions; the pagans celebrated their festival on December 25. The Christians didn’t want to take part in that, and so they said, “While everybody else is celebrating this pagan thing, we’re going to have our own celebration. We’re going to celebrate the thing that’s most important in our lives, the incarnation of God, the birth of Jesus Christ. So this is going to be a time of joyous festivities, of celebration and worship of our God and King.”

I can’t think of anything more pleasing to Christ than the church celebrating his birthday every year. Keep in mind that the whole principle of annual festival and celebration is deeply rooted in ancient Jewish tradition. In the Old Testament; for example, it revealed the Messiah would come to redeeming the Jewish people. I believed Jesus is the true Messiah meaning anointed one, or chosen one, or liberator.

The reason why Jesus came into this world is to redeemed mankind from their sins.
