A Tribute To RC Sproul

Robert Charles Sproul known as RC died on Thursday afternoon on December 14th 2017 in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
Study under John Gerstner, at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and graduated in 1964 with Master of Divinity. Than pursued a PHD Free University of Amsterdam graduated in 1969. He has taught at many colleges and seminaries, including Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando and Jackson, Mississippi, and Knox Theological Seminary in Ft. Lauderdale. Along with mentor John Gerstner founded Ligonier Ministries named after the Ligonier Valley just outside Pittsburgh, where the ministry started as a study center for college and seminary students. Moved to its Orlando headquarters in the mid-1980s. Where held conference every year and throughout Canada? Where he taught that God is bigger than we knew, our sin is more deeply rooted than we imagined, and the grace of God in Jesus Christ is overwhelming.”
I attended a conference in 1995 Toronto and in Detroit several years later on The Holiness of God. Also, many of his books and tapes. He shaped my thinking since I was reformed in my thinking. It was through his lectures, and reading his books helped me to understand the holiness of God and Justification by Faith
What I remember most about him was his laugher or his impersonation of Lt Colombo constantly walking while doing his lectures. Dr Well stated he got paid by the mile.
In one his lectures he uses a Latin phase: Simul Iustus et Peccator coin by Martin Luther. Meaning Simultaneously Saint & Sinner a Christian person is righteous and a sinner simultaneously, holy and profane, an enemy of God and a child of God. Late Dr. John Stott wrote, “Who am I? What is myself? The answer is that I am Jekyll and Hyde a mix up kids, having both dignity because I was created had been re-created in the image of God, and depravity because I have fallen and rebellious nature. I am both noble, ignoble beautiful, ugly good, bad, upright, and twisted image and child of God yes sometimes yielding obsequious homage to the devil from whose clutches Christ has rescue me. My true self is what I am by creation which Christ came to redeem, by calling myself what I am I am by the fall, which Christ came destroy.”
RC Sproul wrote, “You are converted not because of your own inherent righteousness, but because God converted you.”
Furthermore he wrote, “The good news of the gospel is that Jesus lived a life of perfect righteousness, of perfect obedience to God, not for His own well being but for His people. He has done for me what I couldn’t possibly do for myself. But not only has He lived that life of perfect obedience, He offered Himself as a perfect sacrifice to satisfy the justice and the righteousness of God.”
Before his death. He stated, “There are only two ways of dying. We can die in faith, or we can die in our sins.”
He also stated, “Far from falling asleep, we are awakened to glory in all of its significance. For the believer, death does not have the last word. Death has surrendered to the conquering power of the One who was resurrected as the firstborn of many brethren.”Lastly, he made it clear to the board that “he wanted Ligonier to remain a living and growing ministry after he passed and not just a monument to one man. He wanted Ligonier to continue to speak to contemporary problems.”
Godfrey also outlined ways in which Ligonier plans to move forward, following key decisions by appointing Godfrey, Sinclair B. Ferguson, Steven J. Lawson, R. Albert Mohler Jr., Stephen J. Nichols, Burk Parsons, and Derek W.H. Thomas.
John Macarthur wrote, “Although R. C. didn’t change his opinion on baptism, our friendship was not sabotaged but strengthened by the robust exchange of arguments and rebuttals. That’s precisely how our friendship worked behind the scenes as well.”
John Piper wrote, “I am sure I owe him more than I can even recall. My reverence for the holiness of God and the truth of his word would not be the same without his influence,”” He stayed close to the great doctrines of Scripture and their profound impact on life and ministry and church and missions. These have been the girders from which he has built a coherent, God-centered worldview.”
Lastly, while attending Pittsburgh Theological Seminary he presented the gospel and one liberal professor told him you’re not present religious doctrine in this classroom ever again.
Disturb as he was he went saw mentor Dr. John Gerstner ask him did any wrong Dr Gerstner respond all martyred saints, Martin Luther, John Calvin, Jonathan Edwards and B.B. Warfield would rejoice along with angels when you presented the gospel He comfort the afflicted and afflicted the comfort
RC fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith Jesus said ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things; I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’ He is heaven among saints
The scripture states, ” Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us.”
Since none of really know what heaven is like due our sinful nature. Imagine Dr Martian Lloyd Jones, Dr. John Stott Dr.S.Lewis Johnson, Dr.Clark Pinnock, George Whitfield, John Westly, John Calvin and James Arminius basking in the glory of heaven due work atoning work of Christ. Men that shape the lives of the saints in the pass and present age. While theirs teaching was flawed; however, they believe and taught and preached Christ in Him crucified, As RC stated I believe 100% was true even thou I know there was blemished my thinking
As scripture states, “For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when the perfect comes, the partial will come to an end. John MacArthur wrote The perfect must be the eternal state, when we in glory see God face to face.
It short it was not Dr Martian Lloyd Jones, Dr S Lewis Johnson, John Calvin, and Dr RC Sproul that did not atone our sins but were mere servants. As scripture delares, “What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? They are servants through whom you believed, and each has the role the Lord has given. 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.” Furthermore it states, “Was it Paul who was crucified for you? Or were you baptized in Paul’s name?”
In short RC in heaven on the account of the atoning works of Christ and likely will encounter people that he disagreed with while, however, they will share the same inherence will, basking in the glory of heaven.
