Reflections On The Resurrection
When Jesus cleansed the temple complex because they were selling oxen, sheep, and doves, along money exchanger
So the Jews replied to Him,” What sign of authority will You show us for doing these things?” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this sanctuary, and I will raise it up in three days.” While the scribes and Pharisees, wanted we want to see a sign from Jesus.
Jesus also declared He would be in the stomach of a big fish for three days and nights, just as the Son of Man will be deep in the earth for three days and nights. Jesus declared to his disciples in Mark 8:31; Matthew 17:22; Luke 9:22 That Son of Man would be handed over to Chief priests and the teachers would kill Him, and on the third day He would raise up.” And the disciples were deeply distressed. Apostle Peter took Jesus aside and rebuke Him.
In Psalm 16;10; For You will not abandon me to Sheol; You will not allow Your Faithful One to see decay. Anthropology did study and found that a dead starts decaying after 72 hours. it worn repeating study again, ” Human Death and Decay, “As the cells die, bacteria within the body begin breaking them down. Enzymes in the pancreas cause the organ to digest itself. The body soon takes on a gruesome appearance and smells. Decomposing tissue emits a green substance, as well as gasses such as methane and hydrogen sulfide. The lungs expel fluid through the mouth and nose. As Martha stated, Martha, “Lord, he’s already decaying ! It’s been four days.
Isaiah 53:9 declared that He would be assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death.
When Jesus gave up His spirit a soldier pierced His side with a spear, and at once blood, and water came out. When Joseph a member of the Sanhedrin who had not agreed with their plan and action. Toke Jesus down from the cross He gave him proper burial according to the burial custom of the Jews, and buried him his tomb. Nicodemus (who had previously come to Him at night) also came, bringing a mixture of about 75 pounds of myrrh and aloes. Then, they took Jesus’ body and wrapped it in linen cloths with the aromatic spices.
He was buried with “the rich” in an honorable burial through the donated tomb of rich Joseph of Arimathea (Matt. 27:57–60; Mark 15:42–46; Luke 23:50–53; John 19:38–40 Fulfilling Isaiah spoken in Isaiah 53:9
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary observed the tomb and where His body was placed. Then, they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.
After the preparation and burial, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered together went to Pilate, and said, “Sir, we remember that when He was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I am to rise again.’ Therefore, give orders for the grave to be made secure until the third day; otherwise, His disciples may come and steal Him away and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.” Pilate said to them, “You have a guard; go, make it as secure as you know how.” And they went and made the grave secure, and along with the guard they set a seal on the stone.
When speaking prior to His crucifixion Jesus predicted his death and resurrection to his disciple that he would be handed over to Elders, Chief Priest, and legal expects and would be crucified and die and after three days He would rise again. Since Jesus already fulfill this first part of His prediction by dying on Calgary Cross and buried Rich man sepulchre.
Chuck Swindoll, utter these words several times. Since, the disciples and two Marys were unaware of Mathew 28 because they’re still living in Matthew 27. Even thou Jesus predicated it would occur. Now Matthew 28 will unfold as Jesus predicated.
On the third day, violent earthquake, and an angel appeared clothing as white as snow and the guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men and they fled the grave site and reported to the chief priest what transpired. And when they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers and said, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.” And if this should come to the governor’s ears, we will win him over and keep you out of trouble.” And they took the money and did as they had been instructed; and this story was widely spread among the Jew to this day.
On the same day Mary Magdalene and, the other Mary went to where Jesus was buried finished the preparation, bringing the spices with them and view the tomb and was empty. They went into the tomb. An angel of the Lord was in the tomb dressed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; they were amazed and alarmed. He said ” Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see Him there just as He told you.'” that He has risen from the dead. So they went out and started running from the tomb, because trembling, and astonishment overwhelmed them. Mary went to the disciple and said, “The tomb was empty
So Peter and John went forth, and they went to the tomb. The two were running together; and John ran faster than Peter and came to the tomb first; and stooping and looking in, he *saw the linen wrappings lying there; but he did not go in. And Simon Peter also came, following him, and entered the tomb; and he saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the face-cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the linen wrappings, but rolled up in a place by itself. So the John who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed. For as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that He must rise again from the dead. At the time, they went back to their own homes and their vocations.
Accordingly, the Apostle Paul For I delivered to you on first importance what I also received, from Christ. He died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas {Simon Peter} then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; and last of all. He appeared to me also
People who saw Jesus after His death:
- He appeared before the other Mary,” Salome, Joanna, and o Mary Magdalene while at the tomb John 20:11-18 Mark 16:9-11.
- Thers, as they returned from the sepulchre. Matthew 28:1-10 Mark 16:1-8, and Luke 24:1-11.

Jesus without doubt is one the key figure in history, Yet Wikipedia claims Jesus has several burial sites, There located in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. A second site, known as the Garden Tomb, located just outside Jerusalem the Old City. Other key religious leader such as Muhammad, Confucius, and Bahá’í you know where they were buried For example: Muhammad is buried in the Al-Masjid al-Nabawi, The grave of Confucius, founder of Confucianism, is in his home town of Qufu, Shandong Province, China, and Bábism The Shrine of the Báb, the burial location of the Báb, the founder of Bábism and one of three central figures of the Bahá’í Faith, is located on Mount Carmel, in Haifa, Israel. Yet, the historian can only speculated where Jesus was buried.
It is also the key to the Christian faith. The core of are walk. Logically how can someone pray to someone who is dead how can that hear your prayers when they’re dead? Dr. Henry Morris wrote these words concerning Jesus resurrection “, the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is the crowning proof of Christianity. Everything else that was said or done by Christ and the apostles are secondary in importance to the resurrection. If the resurrection did not take place then, Christianity is a false religion. If it did take place, then Christ is God and the Christian faith is absolute truth.
Another factor that sin is the cause and the effect of physical and spiritual death.
“Death is our greatest enemy, and it has conquered all men but Christ. No man is wise enough to outwit death or wealthy enough to purchase freedom from death or strong enough to vanquish death. The grave always wins the victory, and every person sooner or later returns to the dust.” In fact, the inexorable triumph of death applies not only to people, but to all things. Animals die, and plants die, and even whole species atrophy and become extinct. Cities and nations, like people, are born and grow for a season, and then fade away. Homes and automobiles and clothes wear out and must eventually go back to the dust, just as do their owners. Even the universe itself is running down and heading toward an ultimate “heat death.” Or the apostle Paul wrote, ” and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.
Remember the disciples they were scattered when chief priest, and legal expect arrested Jesus and the disciples lived in fear for their lives as scripture states, ” Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered, and I will turn my hand against the little one.” After Pentecost when 120 followers of Jesus were upper room praying requested by Jesus. The Holy Spirit descended upon them, and they became to speak in tongues and the apostle Peter preached the gospel. Later on, chief priests and the Pharisees order John and Peter threatens them beat them in Acts 4. The key was the resurrection of Jesus Christ all they had to is point to His empty tomb. The Pharisees and Sadducees had to produce the body, and the apostles would be the laughing stock of community and no one would take them serious.
2 Peter 1:16 “For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were EYEWITNESSES of his majesty.”
- And these men went so far as seal their testimony with their blood! They died a horrible and martyrs death!
- There is no way; these 12 men could have all been deceived.
- For this reason—these 12 men not only died for a lie—and here is the catch—THEY KNEW IT WAS A LIE!
- If the resurrection of Jesus Christ a lie—THEY KNEW IT!
Professor Thomas Arnold, former chair of history at Oxford, and author of the famous volumes, History of Rome, was skillfully educated in the study of historical facts. Professor Arnold, stated, “I have been used for many years to study the histories of other times, and to examine and weigh the evidence of those who have written about them, and I know of no one fact in the history of mankind which is PROVED BY BETTER AND FULLER EVIDENCE of every sort, than the great sign which God has given us that Christ died and rose again from the dead.”
After investigating the evidence of the resurrection, Lord Darling, former Chief Justice of England, stated, “. . . There is such overwhelming evidence, positive and negative, factual, and circumstantial, that no intelligent jury in the world could fail to bring in a verdict that the resurrection story is true.” Now to deny the resurrection of Jesus Christ you have to close your eyes to the overwhelming facts of history. Tim Keller penned these words, “If Jesus rose from the dead, then you have to accept all that he said; if he didn’t rise from the dead, then why worry about any of what he said? The issue on which everything hangs is not whether or not you like his teaching but whether or not he rose from the dead.”
Jesus is alive!!
if believe in His atoning works you will have eternal life with Christ. Martha Tigchelaar my mother died on March 08 2012. What comfort our family most I’ll see one day in heaven. As King David declares, “I’ll go to him, but he will never return to me.”
As written in scriptures, ” O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” Furthermore, it is written in the Old Testament, “I will ransom them from the power of Sheol. I will redeem them from death. Death, where are your barbs? Sheol, where is your sting?”
Christianity is the most persecuted people throughout history because of their faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ eleven of the twelve apostles were martyred because their strong belief in the resurrection of Christ.
If the disciples took Jesus body the common belief in that time frame. You would think at least one. The disciples would reveal where Jesus body is, certainly chief priest, nor the guards kept watch over the grave site would not reveal their secret meeting The guards would have lost their lives if Roman authority found out they abandoned their posts.
The chief priests, Pharisee, and the legal expect hated Jesus, and put Him to death. If the mass would have known their intent of killing Him, and covering up the resurrection it also would have expose their hypocrisy to the people. As Jesus stated the disciples, “If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own. However, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of it; the world hates you. Remember if world attack you remember they attack Jesus first. As scripture declares,” Because of Him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them filth, so that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own from the law, but one that is through faith in Christ—the righteousness from God based on faith. My goal is to know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11 assuming that I will somehow reach the resurrection from among the dead. NT Write wrote, ” The resurrection completes the inauguration of God’s kingdom…It is the decisive event demonstrating that God’s kingdom really has been launched on earth as it is in heaven.
