Testing The Foundation To See Withstand The Storms
Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. 14 If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. 1 Corinthians 3; 12 – 14

IT Is Well With My Soul written by Horatio Spafford in stances two wrote these words, “ When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well; it is well with my soul. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control, That Christ has regarded my helpless estate, And has shed his own blood for my soul. ” Horatio Spafford was a successful lawyer who in Chicago that lost his business resulting from Chicago fire on Tuesday, October 10, 1871. In 1870 his only son died from scarlet ever at the age of four, In 1873 his wife and four daughters went to England, Horatio Spafford would later meet them in England.
On November 22, 1873, while crossing the Atlantic on the steamship Ville due Havre, their ship was struck by an iron sailing vessel and 226 people lost their lives, including all four of Spafford’s daughters. Anna Spafford survived the tragedy. Upon arriving in England, she sent a telegram to Spafford beginning “Saved alone.” Spafford then sailed to England, going over the location of his daughters’ deaths. According to Bertha Spafford Vester, a daughter born after the tragedy, Spafford wrote “It Is Well with My Soul” on this journey.
Despite all the trouble waters that occurred in Spafford five-year time span. Where did he find his strength? and where did come from? His strength came from the solid foundation of Jesus Christ; furthermore , he wrote, “My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! And, Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll; the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend, even so, it is well with my soul. He bases his relationship on Christ not earthly materials. His home was heaven not earth where he would see his son and four daughters. He built his foundation upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone.
The work on Calvary cross is our solid foundation all other earthly doctrine is sinking sand as Matthew Henry stated, The doctrine of our Saviour and his mediation is the principal doctrine of Christianity. It lies at the bottom, and is the foundation, of all the rest. Leave out this, and you lay waste all our comforts, and leave no foundation for our hopes as sinners. It is in Christ only that God is reconciling a sinful world to himself.”
A pastor friend of said these words once we all need to go through the fire to produce a fruit righteousness. Furthermore, he stated while foundation is invisible it’s the reason ;the structure is standing. When you build your foundation on Christ and Christ alone , you will endure flaming trials when come your way. As scriptures states,” Though a righteous man falls seven times, he will get up, but the wicked will stumble into ruin.” ” As it written we build our foundation on the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.”
Even thou hardship and trial our part of lives, and they will come whether you believe in God or not, they still in our lives. It’s who you trust in times of trouble water whether its Jesus Christ or your own flesh. Believing in Jesus will produce gold and silver believing your own flesh will produce wood, hay, and straw on the day fire come it will perish.
For example, illness, or a wound prevented me from doing volunteering work at church; however, I able to write. When I lost my toe it laid me for a year. The management at McMaster was training me to be a porter in which in would been a part time position as Mac, because amputation they hire someone else. That being able to go to school and high school diploma. I also was declared disable and put on ODSP. Even thou I work at two more years for about 10 hour week eventuality I was unable work because the wounds that appeared my leg and toes; however, mother able stay home in the latter part life because I able care for her.
Because the apostle Paul was prevented from going to Rome, and sixteen chapters were written for our benefit. He wrote Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon while in prison. While in prison it prevented him from working in the mission field, in one his letter he wrote these words,” And because of my chains, most of the brothers, and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.”
Trials either bring the worst out you, or you’re best, and out trial a fruit of righteousness is produced. Where is laying your foundation Christ or your flesh?
